Telco/Comms Working Group: VNF opportunity

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

2:00 - 3:00pm
Tom Anschutz, AT&T
Yanvi Lavi, PMC-Sierra

They will present the VNF opportunity and the work they would like to pursue with this community:

1) A brief intro on SDN and NFV that describes how we got to where we are today.
2) Describe the need to decompose traditional networking functions, both hardware and software, to promote re-use and leverage smaller and fewer specialized components – both hardware and software.
3) Provide an example and kick-off a first design for a GPON system, show the decomposition of the box hardware and software, and re-assign the needed roles to NFVI and VNF instances. The result has a remainder that shows the need for a GPON MAC to be available in NFVI. That is what we will propose to do as a simple first step.
